If you're happy and you know it...

Clap your hands!

Fine motor skills like clapping hands are usually mastered when baby is around 9 months old (although each child is different. Some start as young as 5 months and others take longer than 12 months). My little one has acquired this fun new skill over the past week and now uses clapping as a way of expressing his excitement and happiness.

I've been encouraging him over the past few months by singing songs like 'If you're happy and you know it' (which he LOVES!). Now when I put on any kind of music he bobs along and claps his hands as if dancing to the music.

Clapping is not an easy skill to learn and requires good hand-eye co-ordination. A BIG milestone achievement for our little ones to master.

When did your baby start clapping for the first time?
